SBCS ended the week in which World Soil Day is celebrated with a great news of soil science approaching legislators and politicians at the SBCS Paraná Nucleus (Nepar).
It was held, on December 3, the public hearing “taking care of the future: the relevance of soil and water in sustainability”, held at the Legislative Assembly of Paraná. The event was attended by researchers from various institutions and authorities, including the Secretary of Agriculture and State Supply, Natalino Avance de Souza. The hearing was organized by Deputy Luiz Claudio Romanelli (PSD)
“There is no point just generating technologies. It is important that people have knowledge about it,” said Professor Marcelo Ricardo de Lima, from the UFPR Department of Soils. He drew attention to the need for investments in soil education, presenting initiatives that aim to disseminate knowledge on the subject. Cited the importance of a teaching material on soils focused on high school and elementary school; Teacher training; and for the creation of mechanisms that allow students and teachers to constantly expand knowledge and discussion on the subject. Professor Letícia Pierri (PUC-PR), Nepar’s secretary, spoke about pollution of agricultural and urban soils, stressed that “they (soils) are the sensitive reactors of nature.”
The researcher Gustavo Ribas Curcio, from Embrapa Florestas – Paraná, approached the recharge and hydrological discharge in agricultural soils. According to him, who defends the protection of natural resources, with the removal of the forest, we had as immediate consequences the loss of springs, the flow of rivers, the river flows.
